To celebrate five years of broadcasting, Bristol’s 1020 Radio is proudly releasing its second compilation, composed of exclusive tracks by its resident DJ’s and producers. As with the first edition, all proceeds will be donated to charity, this time being received by ‘Creative Youth Network’, an organisation which helps young people reach their potential and lead fulfilling lives.

Across twenty tracks split over two parts, the record explores the role of dance music within the omnipresent theme of night and day. Beginning with harmonious 2-step and ethereal percussion tools, the daytime section evokes balmy landscapes by marrying high definition sonics with the uplifting musical heritage of the Caribbean.

Night falls, and the record descends into the depths of sub-aquatic techno and cerebral bass music. Here, abstract sound design conjures images of dark, cavernous spaces, where biomechanical rhythms are used to echolocate low lit basements, priming you for last-dance manoeuvres in brave new worlds.

More than ever, UK dance music must reflect on itself in order to move forward. Through this compilation and it’s studio community, 1020 sews together the cultural threads of its contributors into a vast sonic patchwork, demonstrating Bristol’s tradition of bold hybridity, whilst musing on it’s bright future.
